Festive Inspirations

And on the 10th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…
…interiors inspired by the warm, cosy and traditional festive feeling.

Christmas decorations usually come out of storage on the 1st of December and are sadly taken down only 25 days later. It’s a very short amount of time which means that decorations are often cheap, recyclable and don’t often make the statement in your home that you see in the Christmas movies.

That’s how I feel when I watch one of my favourite holiday classics ‘Home Alone’.

The sets created for Home Alone make the whole house come alive with Christmas, from the green curtains to the wreath-patterned wallpapers to the red velvet carpet stripe going down the main stairwell.

Keeping in mind that this set was built to only be practical during the Christmas season, there are definitely elements of the design that would work and flow in your home all year round. I’ve gathered up what I call ‘festively inspired’ pieces from our showrooms, to inspire a little bit of Christmas in every day life:

The orchid, especially in the poppy red and leafy green colour combination is reminiscent of the red Christmas poinsettia flower.

This design is part of the Cole & Son Contemporary Collection.

The Contemporary Restyled collection is a fresh take on iconic designs, breathing new life into popular designs from the brand’s extensive history, including the beloved Woods, Cow Parsley, Orchid, Hicks Hexagon, Palm Leaves and Flamingos.

Disco Ball optional.

RudolfElitis: Rudolf

Want to really make a statement with your wallpaper? Then Rudolf is the one for you. Elitis brings out the Christmas spirit with their Wonderland collection.

An original creation that enters a magical world: the lenticular. The images come alive at a glance, emerging and popping out in 3D. A new idea to dress up an entire wall or just a section, revitalise a hallway, make a statement in an entryway, create a lively and unexpected surprise.

KAI: NevadoKAIgold

All that glitters is most certainly gold. Add a touch of elegance to your home and tone in your Christmas decorations with a metallic sofa. KAI’s new Japura collection will make you feel lush, opulent and always with a bit of Christmas cheer.

Other designs in the Japura collection include Allegra, Alma, Jinx, Leonita, Luana and Mambas.

Royal collection greville

Royal Collection: Greville

Enjoy the Queen’s annual Christmas message on something fit for a palace.

The ‘Greville’ is a jacquard weave cut velvet based on a fragment found in the archives at Windsor Castle.

This design comes from the Augusta fabrics – A regal collection of sumptuous velvets offering rich depth of colour and wonderfully soft texture and handle – all inspired by privileged access to the great British palaces.

Classical motifs, damasks, and brocades, make for a stately collection offering the finest dimensions of touch and detail.

Five colours including emerald and scarlet, for a classical Christmas feeling.

cole_son_albemarle_albery_croppedCole & Son: Albery

This design offers a modern twist on the trend for antique decorative glass, using ornamental elements from the Cole & Son archive to create a bevelled mirror wallpaper pattern.

Printed on a foil backing, this design comes in six subtle reflective shades of aged silvers, rusted bronze, faded blues and amethyst.

If snow is what you like most about the festive season, then this is a perfect option for you to bring the magic of the icy crystals inside, sans the freezing temperature. Nobody wants to build a snowman… inside.

OL 21_Providencia_Fabric_MW_330pxOsborne & Little: Matthew Williamson’s Providencia

A large damask stripe bordered with embroidery detailing in contrasting colours.

Designer Matthew Williamson is known for his bright enigmatic colours and prints. This traditional damask has taken a modern spin with a glittering finish.

Just like catwalk pieces, the designs are embellished in minute detail: spot the glistening micro beads in the Providencia wallpaper or sparkling holographics to captures gemstones.

The ‘Providencia’ pattern comes in both fabric and a matching wallpaper, as part of the Samana collection of 2014. The wallpaper has a large damask stripe highlighted with glitter printed in relief.

This design will bring your Christmas decor into the sun. A great combination of traditional design, bright colour and playful stripes to realise a summer Christmas dream home.

starla

KAI: Breeze

Watching snowflakes fall on the window outside is not a common association for the Christmas season in the southern hemisphere. If you are crying out for a winter wonderland this year however, then this sheer from Charles Parsons’ KAI will make you feel right at home.

The Starla collection offers ‘Breeze’ – a light sheer with a soft geometric pattern that will catch the sun and bring your windows – and your room – to life!

The Starla Collection also contains a range of beautiful solid drapery fabrics. Mark-making patterns and textures come to life in muted shades influenced by the colours found in natural dyes to evoke a sense of calm sophistication.

JAB boheme JAB: Boheme

From Jab Anstoetz Fabric comes the Boheme, a lovely rich satin fabric that is the perfect base setting for a Christmas interior theme.

Sometimes the best decorations are plain and simple, and it is the finishing touches that really make them stand out. This decorative fabric would make such a lovely foundation for so many different designs and schemes.. the festive interiors world would now be your new oyster.

ZaragozaDesigners Guild: Zaragoza

When you are on the hunt for a hunter green, you might run into a wee bit of difficulty locating the exact colour you are after. Zaragoza from Designers Guild is one of the few designs that includes a deep green to compliment the other colours in your scheme.

Don’t be afraid to embrace pine all year around with Zaragoza’s Viridian – A heavyweight and sumptuous weathered chenille designed as a go-to upholstery velvet look with a vintage quality.

Ashley Wilde: Lotta Jansdotter Signature

This range, distributed in New Zealand by Charles Parsons Interiors, will bring that bright pop of colour into your home, without being overstated. Weaving together elements of simple Scandinavian influenced style, with products that are at once handmade and modern, Lotta’s smart, organic pattern designs have earned her international acclaim. The designs come in a range of colours but the warm poppy and orange will inspire a true blue Kiwi outdoor Christmas.

And there you have it. Ten different designs that, with the proper accessories and decor, can be both a permanent staple in your home and a foundation in which to build your dream Christmas interiors.

Have fun with fabric this Christmas

and a have a warm, safe and happy festive season!
